The title of this abstraction emerged while exploring ways to reinterpret this photograph of the base of a cracked gravestone. First I converted the digital image from color to grayscale. As I manipulated the contrast, the white shape in the center transformed into the leaping figure of Mercury, messenger for the gods of ancient Rome, amidst shining stars and nebulae.
